Funny that, isn't it? The role of the NFWG is to revitalise the nuclear industry in the U.S. but not choosing the most efficient means of enrichment and maintaining market distortions hardly meets that objective. If I was in charge of the DOE I would be paying Silex to take those depleted tails off my hands and it wouldn't take me a decade to figure that out. I would also partly fund the operations as it involves cleaning up my nuclear waste (which benefits the environment) and provides certainty around the supply of enriched uranium at the lowest cost (contributing to energy security). Hell, if they were really onto it they would import waste from other countries, use the SILEX process and sell it right back to them at margins large enough to make a dint in their huge federal deficits. Surely that would justify a large pay-rise for those accountable? I'm starting to forget Silex benefit from this whole ordeal and that we're just providing a social good to the U.S....
