I only read this page, but having actually done some safety-related work out there in the early 90s, I can tell you that if the State of California ever pulled their collective heads out of their regulatory backsides, Mountain Pass would immediately become the largest rare earth mine/processing facility in the world. It lacks a few of the rare earths, but people forget that just this one facility provided 80% of all rare earths on the planet, for more than two decades.

We COULD be self-sufficient in a matter of a couple/three years, if we tried and got over NIMBY.
