My interest is how this shows that science education is sorely lacking in some decision makers and how home spun ideas can come from people that should ( science teacher ) know better. These home spun ideas can take root and become accepted.

BTW I am an avid follower of the creeping anti-science movement creeping into education and public discourse. There are lots of examples , here and over there.
