    Pakistan has an awful lot of problems. the flood last year devastated their economy and destroyed millions of peoples' ability to make a living for a long time. the recovery from such an extreme disaster will likely continue for some years to come.

    it seems Pakistan has a similar problem to the US and Aus and most other countries today where populists win control. if people are in severe hardship they do tend to look for miraculous remedies and turn to religion. if religion can't help they then look for 'people power' and become more extreme. certainly the Taliban and other militant extremist groups are trying to win power. without donations from other countries the suffering would become more supportive of revolutionary ideas.

    so yeh, you may have a point. I'd be equally concerned for the danger that the people of Pakistan may turn to communism.
