The way forward has to be close US/China collaboration. Obviously some enabling actions by both sides would need to occur first
The agitator competition model promoted by both the PLA and Trumpists can only lead to failure. If Trumpists return to power I see war with China as a certainty.
I also believe that Xi's attempts to mitigate national fracture will actually cause fracture in due course. It's in nobody's interest for China to follow the path of the USSR, but until recently it wasn't.
The US needs a visionary leader but there aren't any sane ones in clear view. Biden brings much needed stability but he isn't a visionary.
