You dont have a choice, we are now another S.E. Asian US military outpost, just like Guam, the Phillipines, Sth Korea etc etc. The US didnt give it all back. They own S.Korea and have thousands of US military in there. You could say Japan is a US military outpost and now so is Australia.
You wont have a choice who to side with the government will go to war when asked, it has not refused yet nor is it likely to. Australia imo will now be a nuclear target.
