Could be a distinct possibility. Igor Panarin has been on about it for years, though his timing is obviously wrong given he predicted the breakup to occur in 2010.The reasons for his predictions remain. Perhaps they will muddle through, perhaps not.

Current fracture lines may include things like states rights versus fed law(issues such as Obamacare, gun laws and legalization of marijuana etc)ie, when push comes to shove who will back down first, hispanic demographics and politics, and bankrupsy of states versus the more wealthy regions, all leading to civil war.
