Yes it is true Derekiz. As a "foreigner" who has lived here for 12 years, I alternate between feeling like an "outsider looking in" and "an insider looking out". Tall poppy syndrome (hewing back someone taller than you), archaic and thuggish trade unions, legal corruption (power brokers, lobby groups etc..), parochial frog pond's views, a celebration of the brawn over brain, automatic price and wage increases without productivity...Australia cannot survive in the brave new world without borders. But! Australia being so isolated, also has had a history of innovation and creativity. CSIRO, the national body for science and innovation is a hothouse for brainiacs...Benitec I am pleased to say, is pedigreed from there and CSIRO is still a major shareholder. Incidentally, that wifi you are likely using now...the US is paying deep money to CSIRO for its invention...
