JC corn is worth more than wheat globally and has been for 6 months or so now. There was nobody stopping any of us from selling wheat when it was $350/t (kicking myself!!!!). Even feed wheat was $300/t last year. Anyone who carried was simply greedy. We never saw wheat over $250 when the Single Desk was in place here in WA.
It is a brave new world for grain farmers but no matter what the system of marketing, collective or singlular, someone has to make the decision to sell and I am happy that responsibility now falls on my own shoulders. We need the same skills when pricing our inputs which are just as volatile these days. We need the same skills when investing off farm. What is a good price?
There are arguments both ways and I am not having a go. Just putting it out there.
