Get while the going is good, get yourself into a mid sized wagon, alot of people coming down from larger sedans to a 4 cyl mid sized are better suited to a wagon rather than the smaller format sedan. Less luggage compromise, safer as these models usually have better suspensions and brakes plus when it comes to resale they move faster.
I would not recommend anything VW, they sit on used lots for upto a year in Sydney, same as Subaru believe it or not.
