December 26. About 30 countries want to establish partnership ties with BRICS, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said. "In addition to the countries that have already joined our union, as of today, about 30 countries would like to establish partner ties with BRICS," he said at a session of United Russia’s commission on international cooperation and support for compatriots abroad.
BRICS currently brings together Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. At the 15th BRICS summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, on June 22-24, the BRICS leaders agreed to admit Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates as new members, effective January 1, 2024.
