Thanks bacci for the candid advice. We are only giving it some thought as one of the blokes I work with was keen on the idea but we are a bit apprehensive to be honest. The super is in my original super account from my coal mining days and I worked with a fair few of the thugs you are talking about! Haha yes they could be brutal to anyone who disagreed with them. The unions have lost much of their power thank god for those actions but a few militants still exist. The credit cards are gone and the mortgages are coming down but we would like a place in Brisbane as we only rent here due to many years moving around in mining and construction and coming from regional areas. We can afford a property in Brisbane with a sizeable deposit but I thought the tax advantages from using a SMSF might be worth looking at. Thanks again B
