You do realise the environmental objections are mainly about ASN getting the brine and then putting it back into the earth? Their big complaint is that it may disturb their water sources or lead to contamination. AND YET IT'S THE DRILLERS WHO CONTROL THAT SIDE OF THE EQUATION! NOT ASN! Its been done by Big Oil so many times and how many times you heard of contaminants? Now MAN still needs to drill and still needs withdraw and replenish the brine as well.
The Govt just passed a whole lot of rules for drilling into these situations, grabbing the brine and putting it back- in fact ASN were heavily involved in the process if you've been following what's been going on.
This is just a quick test case for ASN to go back onto those rules and regulations and make sure they comply.
