Hi Le ASX,

I have a similar situation, as I pay the outgoings for a number of properties. In SA, upon closer inspection of the base rates per kWh of energy usage, and taking into consideration both peak and off peak rates or prices for the first x kWhs (depending on which plan you have), I realised that AGL came out cheaper than the competitors.

Origin Energy offers discounts however their base rates, for the first "x" kWhs and the remaining kWhs thereafter, are higher than AGL's, and therefore their final price per kWh (with the discount applied) ended up being more than the AGL price.

This is particular to SA only, but we have the highest electricity prices in Australia, so it may be an outlier for AGL.

Example (performed today, Tuesday 2am, 27 October 2020) using energymadeeasy.gov.au and comparing AGL and Origin rates for my postcode:

AGL RATES (ELECTRICITY - RESIDENTIAL)

Supply charge: 81.08 cents/day

First 4000 kWh: 36.36 cents/kWh

Remaining kWh: 36.36 cents/kWh

ORIGINA RATES (ELECTRICITY - RESIDENTIAL)

Supply charge: 85.71 cents/day

First 10.9589 kWh: 37.98 cents/kWh

Remaining kWh: 40.53 cents/kWh

As can be seen above, AGL, still comes out in front.
