That is partially true, just a misguided way to state it.
I'll wait till the enquiry comes out before drawing a conclusion but my hypothesis is that the downed poles caused a huge draw on a limited supply plant (all plants are limited supply) caused a trip, it just so happens that at least one of those plants tripped was a renewable supply.
Regardless, storage and renewable energy should be de-coupled IMO, batteries can be charged at off-peak times by non-renewable sources as backup regardless of the energy source.
