If you compare the cases / deaths you can see the deaths are drastically lower in the latest peak, this is with:
a) More vaccinations (around 60% of everyone vaccinated)
b) Less restrictions

Most people would agree that reducing deaths would have to be one of the main things. I added the orange and blue lines so you can easily compare the deaths with the peaks in cases. See how the last one has the biggest difference.
