Usually it takes 5 years to develop a vaccine. The COVID-19 vaccine is moving at lightning speed compared to that. They speeded up the process and moved to animal testing in record time because the DNA mapping was released. 12-18 months is incredibly rapid.
They weren't given funding to continue anti coronavirus vaccine, so development stopped. This is a tragedy and a lesson to penny pinchers on budget priorities.
The researchers sound pretty confident to me. At least 4 bodies just within Australia are working on this. Many are doing it overseas. And they have the DNA mapped.
