The passing of a counterculture king
Counterculture guru and revolutionary Richard Neville has died age 74.
Mr Neville was the co-founder and editor of famed counterculture magazine Oz, which was instrumental in exposing issues such as sexuality, censorship, police brutality and the “White Australia” policies of the Australian government.
Oz used humour and satire to push social issues to the fore, but was not without it's share of controversy. Mr Neville and his co-founders faced court numerous times on charges such as obsenity and conspiring to corrupt public morals. Oz was seen as a counterculture bible of sorts, and even had John Lennon as one of its biggest backers.
Mr Neville's revolutionary work will long be remembered as breaking ground on important social issues. Vale Richard Neville.
