I have also noted the more rapid change in bits, this might be due to the formation being harder or what I think is more likely is drilling though interbedded layers claystone and limestone is difficult due to the rapidly changing nature of the rock type. So if you give them the benefit of the doubt they just having trouble finding the right bit and jet combination, this might also explain the reduction of the mud weight. Lower mud weight = faster easier drilling so long as you can stop the well kicking.

CB is an active hydrocarbon basin so would would hope to have some gas and may be oil indications as you drill, these have most likely migrated from much deeper geological horizons and at this stage we can not start to speculate if they are related to the primary objective.
