Vale seeks quarterly price rises of up to 130% in Europe

Iron ore supplier Vale is asking its customers in Europe to pay price increases of 85% for fine ore, 105% for lump ore and 130% for pellets, the works council of ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe tells Steel Business Briefing. The increases would cover only the next three months.

SBB calculates that this would take FOB prices for the April-June quarter to 186.76 US cents per metric tonne unit for Carajs fines, 224.72/mtu for lump ore and 261.83/mtu for Tubaro pellet. The councils chairman Wilhelm Segerath notes that the German steelmaker will be heavily affected by the larger percentage increases as it uses the more expensive ores to a high degree.
