I have just bought 6 million shares today and happy to ride out the bumps in the stock over the next few weeks. The discussions around credit rating are a side issue that both MIN / Gina / Forrest will be more than aware of but they are all in the process of trying to buy at least a majority share in Atlas.
It is clear that there is significant value in the Atlas assets. All bidders should be able to go to at least 5c which would be repaid through the tax losses that AGO has. For the port access both Gina and Forrest could stop all mining if they don't get granted further access to ports and this would increase the price of iron ore as they have just taken 50 million tonnes a year of ore out the market and prevented MIN becoming stronger. If the price of ore does rise significantly it would be easy for them to start mining again and take profits in the future.
By telling the WA government that either Gina or Forrest will close the mining operations without port access puts them both in a strong position as they will say jobs are being lost as the WA government isn't helping them.
I strongly believe that Gina and Forrest aren't working together and want Atlas for themselves and not to share it as that would be collusion and against ASIC regulations. I therefore believe that they both will make separate bids for Atlas and clearly investors who hold on for the best bid will be rewarded. If they don't take over Atlas completely then the tax losses will be lost forever and both of them have enough cash to spent around 500mil for the company. Given they both purchased 20% for around 60million then they could easily be offering north of 6 cents a share and they are getting the tax losses and the rest for free. The strength of their positions with the port access and lithium business is what they are really after and will be getting for free under my scenario. I don't believe it is in either of their interests to be working together and therefore a bid for the whole company will be coming from both of them. It will be interesting to see what they are prepared to pay but clearly well north of the 4 cents that Forrest has been initially buying at.
