Tewks - good question. Don't know the answer and don't think we'll get any closer until we see the abstract in the patent application. But as a pure guess/speculation how about fluid dynamics. Many, many years ago I worked in a plant where we controlled the precipitation of metals by controlling the flow rate of the fluid that the metals were suspended in. Just a wild guess.
