You need to price spec stocks as options. Perhaps looking into how to do this will ease your mind. Yuo will see that spec stocks are valued much higher than their cash value based on future options.
As far as the sale price goes. Companies sell assest for what they think they are work that the time. Peabody didnt know exactly how much coal is in the ground nor did CEO. They came up with an agreed figure and settled on it.
