The way I see it is there are two factors that will drive vanadium stocks.
The first factor, which we have discussed at verbatum in these threads, is in the large scale energy storage sector as vanadium batteries there are better than lithium batteries IMO, but obviously time will tell. A factor preventing greater development and takeup IMO of vanadium batteries is limited supply and price of vanadium (see second factor below). See Post #: 30066794
The second factor is China's decision to ban slag imports, obviously a decision it can reverse but it doesn't look likely it will be reversed. According to this link - http://www.australian-shares.com/vanadium-australia.html - over half the world's vanadium production comes from slag as a by product of steel making Obviously a lot of this slag is produced in China anyway so the import ban won't affect local production but more stringent environmental procedures will there as is also happening in China of late, so obviously you need new supply sources as slag is cut and the likely growth in VRBs, noting China is most likely IMO going to take the lead in VRB development and usuage. Not to mention the current driver in price is the perceived shortage of vanadium in steel making , i.e ferrovanadium, which is currently the biggest area using vanadium, let alone what will happen once VRB takeup increases IMO.
New production sources are required and AVL is currently in the right space so it is a high risk investment but one which can provide high rewards IMO (but obviously invest what you are willing to lose).
As new production comes onstream I would expect vanadium prices to stabilise or reduce and that IMO will further provide the commercial drivers for the greater deployment and takeup of VRBs, and then from there fostering new growth in producution needs etc etc etc All IMO.
