What tangible value are they actually adding?
Since you mentioned two companies in particular, compare past performances can also give you an indication of what's happening behind the scenes, and what to expect in the future.
Particularly with what's happening now to the sp one of the companies handled by AG (cough... a?z), a similar story to what happened in their previous engagements - quite painful but could be a good sign for the holders a year down the track.
Still a big if for me, though, since still very risky (again, for me) due to the location.
