KOH you are absolutely correct. Vanadium is a poison for batteries. I remember discussing this with MNS management several years ago. At the time MNS didn't have any lab results back regarding chemical composition of our graphite...after results came out MNS management were so excited/relived that results were vanadium free.
Vanadium is certainly a no goer when it comes to batteries.
