Sunshine Heart is developing an extra-aortic balloon pump to treat moderate to severe heart failure. The C-Pulse system is simple to implant, easy to manufacture, avoids with requirement of a heartlung machine during surgery, is non-blood contacting, and requires far less surgery than current surgical interventions.

The company is 12-18 months behind VCR in terms of
human implants. Six months before its first human implant, VCR was worth $150M.
