Sri Lanka is the only active producer of vein graphite – a naturally occurring high purity form of graphite – with an output of around 5,000 tpa. While exploration and development projects are aiming to increase production capacities in the country, little output growth is expected throughout 2015.

10th Dec 2014, the price of vein graphite (91% C, -8 Mesh, FOB, Sri Lanka) stands at between $950 and $1,050/tonne, while the equivalent price of 98% C, +8 Mesh is $2,250/tonne, on average.
