Prices rise, businesses geothermal power heats up
JAKARTA. The government will raise the purchase price for geothermal power (geothermal) by PT National Electricity Company (PLN) of U.S. $ 0.097 per Kilowatt Hour (kwh) to U.S. $ 0.1-US $ 0.12 per kwh. Employers geothermal power plant (PLTP) welcomed the plan.
President Director of PT Bakrie Power, Ali Herman, revealed this during the utilization of geothermal energy as a source of electricity in Indonesia is less developed. In fact, Indonesia including geothermal warehouse.
One cause is the lack of development of geothermal electric power price is considered to be still very cheap. As a result, if the price of electricity rose to U.S. $ 0.1-US $ 0.12 per kwh, employers will be increasingly encouraged geothermal power projects to develop geothermal-based electricity.
Bakrie Power to build geothermal power plants Sokoria, Ende, Flores, East Nusa Tenggara. The issue, Bakrie Power and PLN do not fit on the price of electricity.
Bakrie Power wanted a price of about U.S. $ 0.12 per kWh. In fact, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) No. 2/2011 on Geothermal Electricity sets price limit on geothermal power price of U.S. $ 0.097 per kWh. "We appreciate the feed in tariff to be set, hopefully it can be applied immediately," said Ali Herman to KONTAN, Tuesday (22/5).
Just flashed back, the government will issue five incentives driving the development of geothermal power that will be published in June 2012. Incentives, among others, the determination of feed in tariffs or tariff to encourage the utilization of electricity with renewable energy.
Ali hopes, Bakrie Power and PLN could soon sign a power purchase agreement PLTP Sokoria after rising new power price. "If the existing power purchase agreement (PPA), we will immediately begin exploring," he said.
Previously, Director of PT Sokoria Geothermal Indonesia, Pandam Pandiyono, revealed after a power purchase agreement was signed, said the company immediately began exploration. In the early stages, the Bakrie family-owned company will explore three wells with an estimated power capacity reached 10 Megawatt (MW).
Bakrie Power will gradually explore Sokoria. Total geothermal potential in geothermal fields up to 40 MW. So far, said the company has bagged a contract pengelolahan geothermal power plant with a capacity of 30 MW. The target, in 2020 the capacity of geothermal power plants has reached 30 MW Sokoria.
Turn PLTP delayed
The price increase for geothermal power is also potentially speed up the implementation of geothermal projects Sarulla in North Sumatra. Capacity of 330 MW geothermal project has been stalled since 2007.
Director General of Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation of Ministry of Energy, Kardaya Warnika, stated, Sarulla Operation Limited, developer of geothermal power plants Sarulla, delay waiting for government regulation of exploration for geothermal matter.
The problem, government is also awaiting the completion of the contract amendment between Sarulla cooperation with PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy. "After that, the government will make joint decree authorizing the continuation of the project," he said.
Kardaya hope this project can be run and completed in 2014. Current generating capacity reached 1480 MW in Sumatra, while demand for electricity during peak reached 1200 MW.
Thus, the capacity of power plants in Sumatra is very thin. Yet on the other hand, electricity demand in the region increased by 10% per year.
