I went to our local store to buy a Canon DSLR a few years ago - I had already done my research and knew what I wanted. When I went there they tried to convince me to get a PHD (Push Here D...head camera). They had no intention of selling me a new $1400 dollar DSLR kit, so I walked out and later found one on Ebay (750D). I have since bought all my lenses second hand rather than new from a local shop. What can I say!?! I still do not go shopping there, but many others must so they can support your shares and divy, as far as I am concerned! I am considering entering into HVN shares when/if it gets below $4.10, but that is because it has a good divy, the 16:1 offers occasionally, and Gerry owns a fair chunk, which I think makes it "safer" for us..., IMO.
