    Time stops for noone. However you are correct to say that the sanctions have caused unanticipated economic chaos and we can see food shortages ahead.

    There are reports that the Ukraine has started burning wheat fields around Kherson; this does not help. Until now they would not have been dry enough to burn but a lot of what was going to be a poor harvest could be destroyed. Russian grain surplus will first feed the people whose crops are being burnt.

    One would expect Russian food exports to be prioritised to friendly countries. As Australia exports food we can expect higher prices; good for our trade balance; not so good for western countries like the UK who import food. I have a sister in the UK and times are tough there. She lost her job June 2020 due to Covid and has not worked since.

    Why should Russia sell produce for dollars when it cannot spend them to buy goods it wants.
