Wrong! Australia would be sending back 800 of those that come with people smugglers to Malaysia under special guarantees they would not be caned and under supervision of the United Nations(UNCR) AND would be taking back to Australia 4000 processed refugees not subject to any special protections that had been languishing in Malaysia waiting for placement. Sounds comparatively very humane to me.
Also the only reason the 800 would be sent back is to discourage the people smuggling model and potentially saving asylum seekers from the dangers of the perilous journey to Australia. Nauru will no longer act as a deterrent because the asylum seekers that go there know they will if deemed genuine refugees be sent to Australia or like country.
You make political mileage out of the 800 but show no compassion for the tens of thousands of asylum seekers already in Malaysia waiting for their opportunity of a new life. Isnt it more humane to stop the people smugglers but give opportunity and humanity to genuine processed refugees?
