    Via Krupp, Italy

Via Friedrich Alfred Krupp, commonly known as Via Krupp, is one of the most famous streets on the island of Capri. Carved into the rock and overlooking the sea, the road connects the historic centre of the island with the seaside area of Marina Piccola. The name comes from a German steel magnate who used to spend several months a year on the island. He built the road to reach Marina Piccola faster, which was where he kept his yacht moored.

The name, unusual for a Neapolitan street, has been challenged over the years. In fact, in 1918, during the First World War, the city council decided to rename it Augustus Street. The population of Capri, however, continued to call the street Via Krupp and in 1961 it was officially returned to its former name.

The island of Capri is well known for its glamour, and is loved by the international jet set. Many movies have been filmed here, including The Bay of Naples starring Clark **le and Sophia Loren, which further fueled the fame and notoriety of the island.
