The nature of tight gas in this formation is that the gas occurs over a significant thickness and in fact none of Lakes’ wells have reached the base of the gas zones in the Strzelecki Group. This leads us to believe that we have discovered a major new gas resource for Victoria and that the fracture stimulation of Wombat 4 later in the year will be very significant in our quest to develop this resource. Significantly, the natural gas recovered in the Wombat wells has been independently analysed to contain an average of 91-92% methane and less than 0.1% CO2 - compared with offshore where CO2 content can be up to 12%. This means that while CO2 will be generated at the time of “burn”, Wombat gas would be starting off with significantly less CO2, resulting in a significant reduction in carbon output."

Beach Energy were about to re-enter Wombat and fracc at the time, but the 2012 CSG and fraccing ban stopped that.
