Tomu,
I wish i had more time to look into this but I think 3000MW would produce $1.2 billion in revenue per year in today's terms.
I find reading about wholesale energy prices a bit difficult to be honest, but it looks like the average price paid is about $50 MWh (with extreme fluctuations depending on supply/demand).
To take the Binningup desal example, the "5MW" contract amounts to 40 gigawatt hours. Every gigawatt hour equals 1000MWh, so the total is 40,000MWh per year
So the 5MW Binningup contract would bring in approximately $2 million dollars in gross revenue per year (40,000 x $50).
I'm no expert on this but the only estimate I've ever read in the papers about how much the Binningup contract would be worth to Carnegie or the other companies was $2 mill per year - so i assume i'm right.
If that's the case then:
50MW = $20mill per year
100MW = $40mill per year
1000MW = $400mill per year
3000MW = $1.2bill per year
So if it did all pan out for the best and 3000MW was achieved, I'd be surprised if a company generating $1.2bill in cash each year would not have a market cap significantly higher than $1bill. Obviously it all depends on what the profit is after expenses/tax etc. But i dont have the time to look for comparisons at the moment - if anyone could help I'd be very grateful.
If all of this sounds like rubbish to you, please feel free to correct me - all corrections would be appreciated!
