I found that funny as well. Australia relies on an ageing, outdated technology (i.e. coal) to deliver the bulk of its electricity, and when that inevitably starts to fail, renewables are blamed. Ha ha!
There are two problems here: outdated technology and ageing infrastructure. The thing holding back renewables is lack of investment and outdated infrastructure. I mean, Australia still has most of its power lines above ground, for God's sake. I guarantee that with modern infrastructure and at least 70% renewables, the power supply will be much more stable. At least, that's what is happening in advanced countries.
