Collignon has been against these lockdowns for quite a while. No doubt certain media people will keep on revisiting his comments to stir up the handwringers.
Let me guess. He was on 3AW ? The station for the perpetually offended nannas.
It's all very easy to comment from the sidelines when there is simply no way you can be proved wrong or right. What are we going to do ? Risk the whole state on one guy's comments ?
I can't comment on the infectiousness of the virus. I can only go with what has been reported by the experts on the case and the evidence they are seeing on the ground.
They suspect the guy caught the virus on about day 13. Even though they are sure he got it in hotel quarantine, they are doing blood tests on all the people on the flight to make sure that he didn't get it there. It seems they are leaving no stone unturned.
I'm sure there will be more to learn from this but it sounds like being extra cautious is the go initially.
So far we have learned heaps about how to treat this virus, how to manage hotel quarantine ( or not ) and how to stay safe.
We know how bad things can get if it gets out and no-one wants that. As difficult as a lockdown is for everybody, until we are better informed I think it's the way to go. We haven't dealt with this strain in the community before in Australia so we can't be 100% certain how transmissible it is. No one can.
People who are criticising this initial lockdown on these threads are just trouble making trolls taking the opportunity to slag the Labor party. A widespread outbreak in the community would be tragic for everyone concerned.
The government is already reducing restrictions in rural areas ( rightly so ) and have a plan to do the same in urban areas provided the cases drop off.
I fully support the government's actions on this so far.
