"The party needs to be broader, and that's the party that Menzies set up — it is a party of Liberals, not a party of right-wing conservatives."
There was a post by some right winger on here somewhere (only yesterday) that really had the answer staring the libs in the face - if only they could see it. (the poster couldn't - they had the wrong idea)
Sorry I can't find it - but, they were saying something like - that it was nothing to do with the Liberals in general because we see that the Libs in Tassie and SA are doing ok
Therein actually lies the secret of if the Liberals need to hook right and go with the dinosaur disruptive or go with what Menzies 'actually' was - he was indeed a 'progressive', a social reformer.
Take note of why exactly Liberals in Tassie and SA are in power --- it's exactly the same reason why Victorian Liberals have been dumped - it's exactly the same reason why Liberals massively lost Wentworth and why they will get demolished if there was a federal election NOW.
People - real people realise that it's 2018 --------- NOT 1950.
They want to build things - not destroy. They want to be inclusive - not hate all Muslims or all other groups - they can differentiate between good people and bad. They understand fear campaigns now -they know that immigration is a federal issue - not a state issue, they know that governments make laws but, shouldn't interfere in judiciary - etc etc -
want to know what sort of decisions that Liberals in Tassie are making?? - look no further - whether you like it or not, look at the decision to remove 'gender' off the birth certificate -----
ask yourselves ------- Is that the policy of return to the past right wing conservatives or is that the policy of a government who is listening to people who are saying - we want to progress - lets try this?
And, guess what - they have got the votes - many here might not like the policy - but, sorry - the voters went with the Libs and the Libs bought that in
South Australia - whilst conservative right wingers are saying we all want coal power and all else is crap -- SA is building solar and batteries - now, it matters not if you are personally against it - what matters is - guess what? -
they have the votes.
Victoria -------- same same
Wentworth - same same.
Morrison takes a hard line in a few words about Muslim extremism - now, you can agree or disagree -but, look at the results -- Victorian Liberals are decimated
It's crystal clear -- people WANT progressive government, people DON'T want negative fear campaigns, group bashings and a return to past decades
they DON'T want the Abbotts, the Duttons and their like -------- it's over.
They actually want what Menzies stood for -------- adjusting for the times - the man was a social reformer ----------- a progressive.
The Liberals needed to wake up to that a long time back ------- maybe it's too late now - don't know.
Let's see how Scott Morrison reacts in the next 2 weeks - will they finally have gotten the right message?? Or will he pretend to have a hard edge and dig himself further into the grave?
Will they work out that the message they learnt from Wentworth was on the WRONG page and they got it horribly wrong and need to do a 180 fast?
Or will the dinosaur noises increase in the party and destroy it totally?
they have done a good job so far.
Labor is hands and heels in front of these people. At least Labor knows we are in the 2000's ------------ the Libs are stuck somewhere just after WW2 it seems.
