    Victorian legislation passed yesterday means that EVs have to pay
    their fair share of the costs of providing road infrastructure and, IMO,
    it sets a benchmark for other states to follow:

    2.5c/km may not seem a lot but for say 20,000 Kms/year, that adds up to $500
    The equivalent in petrol excise & GST would likely be $650 @ 7 litres/100 kms.
    So the $500 EV road surcharge would pan out at about 5.4 litres/100 kms
    for a conventional ICE car.
