The only reason demand is outstripping supply at the moment is because of a flood of migrants in to many parts of Aust particularly Victoria to take up the so called skilled short fall???

If we were all wearing orange tradie jackets then the issue of recruitment might hit the radar screens of some and be better investigated that in the long term will see the current recruitment process completely changed forever

I've got absolutely nothing against migration for this country history will clearly show us its been of great benefit for this nation but one would think that these days a requirement might be to at least speak the english language, if you've got a skill thats a bonus and agreat start!

Other than say some building and manufacturing trades we don't really have a skill shortage in this country or lack of enthusiastic workers willing to get of the beach, the dole or their arses, get in the particpation line for work, have a go and change their entire lifestyle in the process for the better longer term!

The whole problem stems from how new employees are recruited or put forward to the employer/client for interview and selection

For example: if I apply for a clerk role in any industry and have 9 and out 10 skills that an employer is looking for, the recruitment firm will usually say 'sorry but you don't meet my clients requirements' 'good luck in your future job selection and by the way don't forget to check our website for other roles that might be of interest'

    WHAT A LOT OF B#@! S!#*

In the good old days when employers did their own recruitment and YES, had HR depts and advertised extensively they were willing to give someone a real go so they could prove their worth and highlight their potential

Now all that doesn't see the cold light of day because know one is willing to take 'any risk' or take the time and effort to recruit correctly

Some employers are time poor and take the soft option in using a recruitment firm BECAUASE THEY THINK IT WILL BE CHEAPER AND EASIER but in the end whilst a recruitment firm promeses a cheaper alternative to putting a new staff member on in the long term it will most likely cost the employer MUCH more in $$$

These days the employer now to busy with work, palms off the recruiting process unfortunately, to a recruitment firm some of which after a brief by the employer about the role, in my experience, fail to advertise correctly or have a full understanging of the role and industry for the position which they are trying to fill

So its little wonder i only choose to apply directly to roles advertised by empoloyers because that way you where you stand FROM APPLICATION TO POST INTERVIEW STAGES and the recruitment firms can waste other peoples time most importantly theirs but not mine because just like the employers i'm too busy ALSO

IF YOU HAVE SIMILAR EXPERIENCES THEN PLEASE POST HERE I'D BE INTERESTED TO GET SOME FEEDBACK

    cheers,
