IMO, Evs have to drop down to within 20% of the price
of equivalent ICEs in order to gain market traction
in Aus. EVs have been marketed in Aus for over 5 years now
and the best that they could muster is about 7K units for the year
out of over 1.1 million vehicles sold in Aus last year.
The problem facing EVs market penetration reminds me of
the diesel car foray into the Aus market post the GFC.
Then as now the diesel variant was about $10K more expensive
than its petrol brother. The justification in that extra spend
was/is 30%-40% more fuel efficient. Did it work? Not really
in cars but a bit better in light commercials where annual
mileage was higher and diesel compatibility with heavier vehicles in the fleet.
(dont mention farm & trucks over 4.5 ton GVM parked outside
metro areas having a diesel excise rebate....wink wink, say no more)
