-Alloy drive motor casings
-Lithium batteries.

We have the raw materials in abundance to manufacture these

Japan, Korea , Thailand & the USA and modern manufacturing
techniques nowadays mostly involve automated processes with the minimum of labour.

So, imo, all that's needed is Government leadership & capital (automated manufacturing
processes are capital intensive; not labour intensive)

NB: The few workers are involved in the casting/machining process
and IMO we could further automate this process:

IMO, we have the advantages of:
-Cheap bauxite
-potentially cheap electricity
-highly educated/skilled technicians

All we need is the will to succeed, IMO.

Since these components would be manufactured exclusively for export
there would be no need to tax inputs including labour
(raw mineral exports are now tax exempt)

In order to finance the project we can always tax bauxite & iron ore exports
(particularly to China) and apart from adding value to our raws exports, this
project would diversify trade away from China.

All of this could be achieved within a Special Economic Zone (say Boyne Island Gradstone Qld)

I agree, we have to stop being an exporter of raw material & giving away the farm.

We need to value add & vertically integrate this process..Its not the car that we need, its the manufacturing...the car will come as a by product.
