As you infer Lav, it is hard to know who to believe.
Power companies, Alinta, Agl, owners of power stations everywhere, Liddell, Yallourn etc are running for the hills. They aren't making money, and are faced with competitors privileged by legislation to choose the best bits, with subsidies.
We are also surrounded by liars. When they refuse to quote cents per KWH, they are fudging.
But Lav, the game isn't over yet. There is no chance the consumer will be a winner.
