I agree with you, that the focus is building a name, a presence, and a large profile on Amazon & Ebay. You cant achieve this without being price competitive. The goal here is to build up a prominent position on all the ecommerce sites, and then command a larger profit margin.
If you put too much profit margin, then you wont be price competitive. Last time I checked, people buy online, and always search for the cheapest prices with the fastest delivery.
Profit will increase in the future. For now, it's all about revenue. This is how it works in ecommerce, and particularly with IT products and Home Appliances.
This is why JB Hifi got so large - price. And the reason why Harvey Norman, Dick Smith, Good Guys, Myer, Domayne, JB Hifi, Bing Lee all price beat or price match.
This game is about volume, not profit. Sell a lot on low margins. Hence, HT8 needs to focus on volume and revenue.
