Had a long chat last night with my retired 747 pilot friend about the 370 flight.
He rejects the idea of a suicidal pilot. The only one he remembered was a Japanese pilot in the 70s who dived into Tokyo Bay after telling every one he was going to do it. Cultural Japanese at the time accepted his decision and did nothing to stop it, the pilot was boss.
In his opinion he thinks there was some catastrophic event that occurred that knocked out everything but not the engines. The pilot could turn the aircraft to go back to KL but then the whole plane load was overcome and ran out of O2, with low pressure, which would put them all to sleep. Depending on the last 4 settings on the plane it flew on automatically. The settings could result in a curved flight path as well as a straight path. He has experienced the affect of low pressure, it creeps up on you and you go to sleep. With increased O2 one wakes up immediately.
What catastrophic event could occur? He mentioned a recent event when an oxygen cylinder did serious damage to a plane when it let loose.

    It all sounds reasonable.

One final point he made was that there are two "people" who did not want to know what happened; Malaysian Airlines and Boeing. Just think of the insurance question!
