We hope the GFC was a once in a generation event - many companies did not see it coming, and therefore were not prepared for it.
Apart from that, putting Owen and Terry into the same analytical basket is unfair to my way of thinking. Owen was a barnstorming salesman who oversold and spruiked the stock up - probably much too high (although on the positive side he did convince Zinifex to merge the companies).
Terry has not done any barnstorming or financial leveraging that I can see.
The value destruction may be similar, but the reasons differ greatly.
