Another possible alternative could be that your thumbs up option only exists but it is shown as a percentage or two figures based on how many individual hotcopper accounts ( not total views as certain people could manipulate this quite easily by revisiting the posts ).

So no thumbs down exist but a poster can thumb up your post if he/she believes it worthy of doing so. This number is correlated against the total number of hotcopper accounts that viewed your post and applied as a percentage or two figures.

eg : 500 hotcopper accounts viewed your post and 10 hotcopper accounts gave it a thumbs up. A percentage of 2% would be shown or alternatively a numerical figure 10/500 could be shown.

This then removes the thumbs down feature, and shows you you how many people considered your post of value VS how many people viewed it...
