Thanks for bringing this up, and a TU from me too. Hope you didn't get any TD's for it lol.
I too am surprised when I see an innocuous post that is fact based or at least sincere be in negative territory when I give it a TU.
As was stated when they were introduced, the thumbs are for recognition of a worthwhile post not just a tribal salute.
As for TD's, don't do them myself but I wonder if displaying them may in a way be better than the current system. Perhaps they are too hidden which appeals to those who like to TD. Don't know for sure but may be the case.
