I was reading in a national newspaper this morning about a dispute between Universal and Tik Tok regarding payment for snippets of music commonly used for posts on the platform. It is quite a complex dispute, with many individual artists being happy for their music to be used for free because of the promotional value while others (who have got to the stage where they need no promotion) are less happy. This is complicated by the fact that teams of song writers are often involved and their members have changed over time.

It occurred to me that this sort of situation may have some kind of value for VNL and its extensive data base. Perhaps not, because apparently there are already a number of blanket agreements in place between music and social media companies that as far as I know do not bring us any benefit.

I'll admit that I'm very hazy over whether monetizing the data base is a prioity with the gradual diversification of our company, but it was just a thought.
