There is violence.committed in private, and that is often if not always terrible to witness or to hear about
Then there is violence perpetrated in public, between people or groups of people, between armies and between states or quasi states.
It is easy to form an opinion about the first type of violence. And we mostly appall it
But when it comes to the second category of violence it's not so easy
For a start, it's often committed at a distance, from a plane or a drone or a ship or a tank or artillery.
In such a case our view about that violence is usually totally determined by our view of the dispute that has caused it to come about.
So today and yesterday we got to hear about the remote controlled violence that happened via pager and by walkie talkie.
Mankind has probably never been so inventive so often as in devising means of harming each other.
It is what it is. As it has ever been.
Will it ever end
Will there be a.conflict to end all conflicts?
Doesn't seem likely. All that seems likely is that we will leave behind eons of archaeological evidence of our inability, despite being a highly intelligent species, of our inability to settle divisions between and within societies peacefully to at least.the partial satisfaction of each side
Strange isn't it?
